The EmpowerED Student Group Training Workshops are a series of sessions designed to empower WashU undergraduate student groups by equipping them with essential resources, tools, and knowledge for achieving success.

- Student Group Events & Programs with Alcohol Training for Student Groups

This training is mandatory for student groups organizing events or programs that involve alcohol. Prior to approval of their event/program, student groups must successfully complete this training. The training will cover the university’s alcohol policy and procedures while outlining the responsibilities of the designated contact person who will be responsible for the event. It aims to ensure that student groups are aware of and comply with the university’s guidelines concerning alcohol and event planning.
- Student Group Conflict Resolution: Harmony in Motion

This training is designed to equip student groups with the skills and techniques necessary to navigate and handle conflicts within their student group. Participants will learn strategies for effective communication, active listening, and mediation to resolve conflicts in a constructive and collaborative manner. During the training, attendees will explore various conflict scenarios commonly encountered by student groups, such as disagreements over leadership, decision-making, or conflicting goals. Facilitators will provide practical tools and resources to help participants assess and understand the underlying causes of conflict.
- Student Group Travel Planning Essentials: Mastering Effective Trip Planning

During the workshop, you will learn the necessary policies and procedures, as well as how to access funding to cover the expenses associated with the trip. Student Group Leader Training (SGLT)
The Student Group Leader Training (SGLT) is a required training for all presidents of student groups recognized Student Union and the Office of Campus Life. This training provides a comprehensive overview of essential topics student gropus presidents need to understand to operate effectively on the Danforth Campus.
2026–2027 Student Group Leader Training (SGLT) for Student Group Presidents
This year (2026 – 2027 academic year), there will not be an in-person SGLT program. Instead, all training will be completed through virtual modules on Canvas. In order for student groups to maintain active status, the PRESIDENT(s) of every undergraduate student group recognized through Student Union or Campus Life must successfully complete this training. If you have more than one president listed in WUGO on your roster, then EACH president must complete this training.
It is imperative that the PRESIDENT complete all required training modules in order for the student group to receive credit for the training requirement. The PRESIDENT is responsible for understanding the information presented and sharing relevant information with other members of their organization. Remember, the actions of any member can impact the standing of your student group.
Student Group Leader Training (SGLT) Instructions
The virtual Student Group Leader Training (SGLT) in Canvas will be automatically assigned to all students listed in WUGO as a President of an undergraduate SU-recognized student group, Campus Life-recognized student group, or fraternity/sorority chapter.
Important: Make Sure You’re Listed as President in WUGO
If you are currently serving as a president, you must update your WUGO roster to reflect your position. The Cavas training can only be assigned to students who are listed as a president in WUGO. Check here on how to edit your roster if you are not listed at the president.
Training Assignment Schedule
- July 31, 2026: All students currently listed as president(s) in WUGO will be enrolled in the required training.
- Beginning August 1, 2026: Any student added as a president after July 31st will be enrolled in training during the next assignment cycle, which occurs every Monday, Wednesday, and Friday.
If You’re Not Listed as President, You Won’t Receive Training
Students who are not listed as a president in WUGO will not be assigned the training. Check here on how to edit your roster if you are not listed at the president.
Multiple Presidents?
If your organization has more than one president, every president listed in WUGO must complete the training by the deadline.
What The President of your Student Group Needs To Do:
- Complete all modules included in this training.
- Each module consists of a video and quiz that must be answered to receive credit. Each quiz you must score 100% on. If you will have unlimited number of attempts for each quiz.
- You must complete the modules in the order they appear.
- Ensure that all modules are fully completed and submitted by the deadline listed below.
Deadline
All training modules must be completed and submitted no later than 11:59 PM on Monday, August 24, 2026.
Important Information
Student groups who do not have their PRESIDENT complete the Virtual 2026–2027 SGLT by the deadline:
- Will be marked inactive on Wednesday, August 26, 2026, in WUGO.
- Will not be permitted to begin fall programming on Saturday, August 29, 2026, including hosting or participating in events, programs, activities, executive board meetings, or general body meetings.
- Will not be permitted to operate, host programs, participate in events, reserve space, spend funds, or engage in other student group activities.
- Once the required training has been completed, the Student Involvement team in Campus Life will verify the submission and restore the group’s active status in WUGO.
- Student groups may not resume operations until this verification process has been completed.
The first day that student groups may begin to program (hosting or participating in: events, program or activities) for fall 2026 is, Saturday, August 29, 2026 – provided their student group has complete this required training AND are showing active in WUGO.
